About the Company
Built on Trust. Committed to Progress.
Aznar Shipping Corp. is a Philippine inter-island shipping company operating RORO, passenger, and support vessels across the Visayas islands.
Company Profile
Company History Background
Early 1990s
A shipping company takes shape.
Its roots trace back to Emmanuel B. Aznar’s early ventures in inter-island trade in the early 1990s, when rising demand for coal haulage led its first vessel acquisition. As the coal market saturated and cheaper imports reduced demand, the group pivoted to serving underserved sub-ports across the Visayas — setting the direction for the company it is today.
Aznar Shipping Corp. was formally incorporated under its current identity in 2016, and now operates as part of a broader holding structure.
Rooted in Cebu
The principal place of business was at the second floor of Aznar Building, T. Padilla Street, Cebu City. The corporation was composed of Emmanuel B. Aznar as President, Mrs. Zoraida S. Aznar as Corporate Secretary and Treasurer, and their children, Dr. Theresa S. Aznar, Dr. Odalie Aznar Madamba, and Atty. Alexander S. Aznar as directors.
The first RO-RO routes
In August 1993, the first RO-RO vessel, Melrivic 2, was acquired and became operational by October 1993 on the Tuburan-Escalante route. Melrivic 3 followed in 1994, initially serving Carmen-Isabel before augmenting the Danao-Isabel route in 1996.
Passenger and cargo growth
The company continued expanding its passenger and cargo fleet through the late 1990s. As market conditions changed, it focused on Roll-on/Roll-off and passenger shipping, which remains the company's core business.
A modernized fleet
The company began a fleet modernization program with Manoling 1 and Manoling 2, followed by Manoling 3 in 2021. The ongoing program reflects the company's commitment to reliable service and long-term growth.
